Xuman Releases "Panic" Off Upcoming "Tales" Compilation

Russian artist Xuman releases electro pop gem “Panic” off the upcoming Xuman Records compilation Tales (released later this month).

The track has been compared sonically to fellow Russians Tesla Boy and France’s Valerie Collective and received praise on high profile electronic blogs like Binary and Nashville Nights.

Check out the song below:

Press:

“Listening to Xuman’s “Panic” is like rubbing glitter into your ears.” - All Music

“This track is definitely groove-worthy, beyond catchy, and needs to be on your next party’s playlist, and it may just be on repeat by the end of the night. Indeed, if you’re not moving by the hook of this track, then you don’t have a pulse.”- Sooo Pure

“Xuman will be the label to keep our eyes on this year.” - Danger! Danger!

The Tales compilation is the first release and the manifest of new Russian label Xuman Records.

Founded by label boss/artist Xuman, the Xuman collective is a conglomeration of a wide variety of artists, who all share the Xuman Records studio as well as a common musical vision.

The label is a family. Musicians from different projects regularly rehearse and record tracks together, participate in jam-sessions and perform live together. Xuman Records studio itself is the hub, which occupies a whole house 30 kilometers outside Moscow. People sleep right on the equipment with the drum roll sounding 24/7. The studio is becoming a place of pilgrimage for young musicians — people come to stare at the place and to meet other musicians personally. Some of them become “friends of the label”.

One example of these “fast friends” is the band On-The-Go, whose track is included in the Tales compilation. Among other guest artists are Bajinda Behind The Enemy Lines (who were displayed much kindness from the Russian music press) and Mujuice (who is definitely not “a young indie artist” and who’s been an artist-participant at MIDEM 2009 in Cannes). His previous album was a staple in iPods of editors of Moscow’s magazines and Russian schoolgirls alike.

One highlight of the label is the Xuman project, which is the alias of Alexander, founder and owner of label, producer and famous Russian DJ. His track “Panic” already has been in rotation at Russia’s most popular pop-rock radio Maximum and in many Europe’s and USA’s blogs.

Alexander also participates in The O project with Nikita Eclier (signed to French Boxon Records with his solo project) andIlya Sosnitskiy (former member of famous rock band Visokosniy God). Under this name they are experimenting with inspired electronica similar to Royksopp and Daft Punk.

Tales Compilation

While the stylistic variation of the Tales compilation is quite large at first glance, in fact, there’s one aim- to create a new layer of Russian independent pop-music. And this concept of pop-music is a broad one since it includes hints of indie-rock, trip-hop and electronica.

Semantically, the compilation is divided into three parts: the first one is more about dance and electronic sounds, the second shows thoughtful side of Xuman Records’ music and the third makes you dance to energetic indie-rock.

Why Music Blogs Are The New Radio

Story is here via Hypebot.

Very interesting piece from The Beggars Group about how they try to get the word out prior to any release by making mp3s available to bloggers.

It really does work folks.

Relation Interview On Bad Fotography Blog

Check out Bad Fotography's Interview with Andy from Relation below. Among other things, he discusses the creation of their album Fear Of Night, New Order and the video for "Your Tiny Mind."

Eat More Cake - Red Sky (The Diogenes Club Remix)

Red Sky is the first single from Eat More Cake's debut album, "Climb The Ladder, Live The Dream" and features the haunting vocals of Alexis Griffith. The song is about contrast; delivering an esoteric message about perspective and ideology.

Red Sky is being released across two parts. Part One contains the avant-garde, with the original album version supported by remixes from the Diogenes Club, Lazybones and No Logo. Part Two is vectored towards the club, with remixes supplied by Borkmann, Avatars, Nikola Gala and the Diogenes Club, with their long player.

Eat More Cake in essence, are writers and musicians Andrew Briggs and Matt Pearn. On stage, they deliver musical direction into an edgy, accomplished and commanding 5-piece band comprising band members, Kay Juviler-Bacon (Vocals), Alex Lane (Drums), Owen Charles (Turntables, Ableton), with Andrew Briggs (Vocals, guitar) and Matt Pearn (Keyboards). Live highlights so far include Glade Festival, The Institute of Contemporary Arts (supporting One Eskimo), Camden Barfly, 93 Feet East and Hamswell Festival. They have also developed a strong grass-roots following in their hometown of Harrow, where they frequently headline at The Trinity.

Tracks by Eat More Cake have already appeared on Hed Kandi compilations, and on Radio 1. Commissioned remixes for artists include 'Green Is For Go', 'One Eskimo' and 'Relation'.

Their debut album (out 2010), was recorded and produced predominantly live, at Eastcote Studios in London by Richard Kayvan. It also features performances by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, conducted and arranged by Youki Yamamoto and recorded and engineered by Matt Howe.

Eat More Cake's writing style is defined by poignant, challenging and often caustic lyrical content, braced with lush orchestrations and irresistible head-nodding beats; surmised by Ibizan impresario Steve Miller (Afterlife) as "Utterly riveting, fresh, massive, huge and perfect for our times.." and by former head of Sony Music Urban Divison, Steve Ripley as "Stunning. I have heard nothing as good for years."

"...the duo of Andrew Leary and Oliver Keech are more than the sum of their parts, creating intelligent, thought provoking '90s style polished pop gems. The Diogenes Club

The latest EP from Britain's The Diogenes Club, "Do You Know How To Feel It" is Diogenes Club Plus.

Following a string of wonderfully indiosyncratic and freshly skewed instrumental EP's and remixes, The Diogenes Club have now been bolstered by the addition of song-writing vocalist Paul Giles. The combination of the Club's quirky take on 80's funk and synth-laden melodies and Paul's sweetly melancholic vocals make a resounding match. The startling effect has not gone unnoticed; and Pete Tong has already made "Do You Know How To Feel It?" one of his "Calm before the storm" tracks on his Radio 1 show.

This EP pioneers the way ahead for the reinvigorated Diogenes Club, trailblazing along a path of emotionally-charged melody-driven electronic songs.

"Do You Know How To Feel It" will be released on September 21, 2009 via Urban Torque Recordings.

Old School Jams - Live At The Greek Theatre 9/13

The Greek Theatre presents Old School Jams Live, a concert featuring legendary hip-hop and R&B stars who pioneered a new style of music in the 1980s. Lisa Lisa, Ready for the World, Klymaxx, Soul Sonic Force, Kurtis Blow, Peanut Butter Wolf and Egyptian Lover are all scheduled to perform.

Originally of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, the group disbanded in 1991 and Lisa Lisa pursued both solo and acting careers. "I Wonder If I Take You Home" was released in 1985 and was followed by another club hit, "Can You Feel the Beat", which also went to #40 on the R&B chart in late 1985. Their third single, the ballad "All Cried Out", also went gold in 1986.

Ready for the World is an R&B / funk / dance band from Michigan. Their self-titled debut was released in 1985 and included perhaps their best-known hit "Oh Sheila," written about Sheila E., which went to number one on the R&B, Billboard Hot 100, and the Hot Dance Club Play charts that year, becoming the first ever single to hold the number one spot on all three of these charts simultaneously. Other hits include “Tonight,” “Love you down,” “Long Time Comin” AND “Baby Let me Love You.”

Klymaxx is a female Urban/Funk band that made history by becoming the first all-female R&B and pop band in which every female member played an instrument. Their hit singles include “The Men All Pause,” "Meeting in the Ladies Room," and “I Miss You.”

The Soul Sonic Force are an American hip-hop ensemble who helped established hip-hop in the early 1980s with songs such as "Planet Rock". They were also influential in the birth of the electro movement in America and helped pave the way for modern dance music styles such as Techno and House, as well as hip-hop sub-genres such as electro-funk and electro-hop.

Kurtis Blow is one of the first commercially successful rappers and the first to sign with a major label. "The Breaks", a single from his 1980 debut album, is an early hip hop classic. Blow released a few more songs in the mid to late 1980s and made an appearance in the hip-hop film Krush Groove, where he performed “If I Ruled the World,” which was Blow’s biggest hit since his 1980 smash "The Breaks".

Melle Mel is one of the pioneers of old school hip hop as lead rapper & main songwriter for Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. After Grandmaster Flash left the group, Melle Mel became known as "Grandmaster Melle Mel" and the leader of the Furious Five. In 1982 a song entitled "The Message" became an instant classic and one of the first glimmers of conscientious hip-hop. The group went on to produce the anti-drug song "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)" (the unofficial music video was directed by then unknown film student Spike Lee).

Egyptian Lover is an American electro musician, vocalist, producer, DJ, and was an important part of the L.A. dance music and rap scene in the early 1980s. He will perform a DJ set.

Peanut Butter Wolf is a DJ, hip-hop producer and the founder of hip-hop label Stones Throw Records. He will perform at VJ set, DJ’ing classic hip hop and R&B hits from the 80s with the matching videos playing simultaneously.

Dazzler

DAZZLER, a five piece from Los Angeles, was formed in late 2008. Frontman and keytarist Neil Schuh, vocoderist/ percussionist Adam Villacin and drummer Tyler Thacker had decided it was time to take the next evolutionary step in the wake of their former band Totally Radd!!, formed a few years earlier at CalArts. Over the course of a few months, the line-up, and sound, had drastically begun to change. Added to the mix was keyboard virtuoso Michael Gold, and former Ima Robot guitarist Andy Marlow.

The organic growth of the band resulted in a new sound for all the members- something fresh, yet uniquely resonating of a time gone by. Each member having been primed from very different musical backgrounds, they found a common thread in the 'art decade' - the long 1970s. The vintage laden stylings of DAZZLER would lead to a debut showcase presented by LA radio haven Indie 103.1, high profile
shows and a rapid buzz in LA's hippest circles.

Earning their touring chops this summer with post no rave darlings Anavan in a 33-shows-in-33-days conquest of the United States, DAZZLER return home to immediately dive into recording Dancing On A Comet's Tail, their debut EP.
